The exhibition is not solely about the resistance movement

It also gives visitors an idea of the society in which the resistance took place.

The museum shows that only a small part of the population was involved in illegal activities and that the resistance developed gradually.

This gives the exhibition a chronological and thematic set-up, starting with a section on the Netherlands in the 1930s – assembled in collaboration with the historian and journalist Jan Blokker. The section gives an impression of the Dutch society that was suddenly confronted with German occupation in May 1940.
