The use of ‘stage sets’, behind which the display cases are hidden, means the information is presented in various ‘layers’. Anyone moving through the exhibition at speed will get a general picture of the Netherlands under occupation.

If visitors want more information, they can discover a wide range of items through peepholes, on flip-over panels and in drawers. The visitor literally has to search for and spy at things that also went on under cover at the time.
Personal angle
The authentic objects are shown in the show-cases and half-hidden display cases together with small, personal stories and easily accessible quotes. This personal angle was a deliberate choice.
All kinds of people
The museum does not provide a representative overview of the main people and events in the resistance, but shows how all kinds of Dutch people responded to the occupation.
Ordinary people and dilemmas
The Dutch Resistance Museum is not about heroes and villains, but about ordinary people who faced dilemmas and difficult choices in a time of shortage and oppression.
